CompletaVite is one of our three daily formulas targeted for horses who are spelling to being in light work. It is also perfect for show
horses with the added benefit of herbal extracts which assist in increasing the natural shine of the horses’ coat.
Allium sativum (Garlic)
Garlic has been used in the CompletaVite formula for a myriad of reasons. As it is a strong anti-microbial, anti-viral and anti-fungal, it
helps to eliminate any infections and strengthen the immune system of the horse (1, 2). As well as being rich in selenium which is vital
for many actions particularly as an antioxidant and for the efficient function of the thyroid. It is well known that high levels of garlic or
long-term use can cause anaemia in horses due to the allicin component. Allicin is destroyed in the drying process of powdered garlic,
as it is extremely unstable, hence why we have used this version in our formula (3).
Mentha pipeita (Peppermint)
Peppermint is one of the most famous herbs; used for its analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, antioxidant, and vasoconstrictor
effects (10). One of the other main properties of peppermint, is in its action on the digestive system, it is a carminative; which means it
is able to increase motility of the gastrointestinal tract (6,10). In addition, there has been research in its effects on lining the epithelial of
the digestive system to assist healing of digestive complaints such as ulcers. Although there isn’t enough research to conclude,
peppermint has also shown some benefit in increasing respiratory capacity of athletes.
Trifolium pratense (Red Clover)
Red Clover is indicated for skin conditions, particularly for it’s hormone modulating and diuretic effects (4). Being a diuretic and due to
its rich level of antioxidants; it assists in the elimination of wastes and improves lymphatic flow (4,5). Both of which are crucial to be
working efficiently to eliminate manifestations in the skin.
Calendula officinalis
Commonly known as marigold, Calendula is a flowering plant which is used for numerous ailments, however the majority of its benefits
come from its high level of bioflavonoids resulting in strong anti-inflammatory properties (7,8,12). Due to these properties it has been
found to have an effect on hyaluronan, which is a major component in cellular regeneration. Hence, it’s effects on accelerating the
healing process and maintenance of healthy skin tissue. Similarly, to garlic, calendula also provides anti-microbial properties (7,8,9).
These work synergistically with garlic to provide extra support for the immune system.
Mineral Tissue Salts
Biochemical tissue salts, or cell salts, are mineral salts that exist in the cells and play a critical role in cellular metabolism. The salts are
administered clinically in very small doses and are prepared in a way similar to homeopathic remedies. Hi Form Australia uses these
mineral salts in most of their formulas, along with specific, organic herbs and herb extracts, amino acids, vitamins and trace
elements.
Dose rates:
300kg pony: 10g (1 small level scoop)
500kg horse: 20g (1 large level scoop)
600+kg horse: 30g (1 & 1/2 large level
scoops)
Feeding Instructions:
Mix well into slightly damp feed.
